Opt-Out Screening

Overview

Opt-Out Screening gives candidates a choice about whether AI is used to screen them. Before screening begins, candidates are asked whether they want to be screened with AI.

If a candidate declines AI screening, the platform follows your organization's configured refusal flow. The candidate's preference is recorded and remembered for one year, ensuring the same choice is automatically respected in future screening experiences.

Opt-Out Screening works consistently across the Candidate Engagement Platform (CEP), chatbot, and video interview experiences.

How Opt-Out Screening Works

When a candidate begins screening, the system checks whether the candidate has declined AI screening within the previous year.

If the Candidate Declined AI Screening Within the Last Year

The candidate's previous preference is automatically applied.

As a result:

  • The candidate is not asked the AI screening consent question again
  • The AI screening flow does not continue
  • The previously selected refusal experience is applied automatically

If the Candidate Has Never Declined AI Screening, or the Previous Refusal Was More Than One Year Ago

The candidate is asked whether they want to be screened using AI.

The candidate's response determines whether:

  • The standard AI screening flow continues, or
  • The organization's configured refusal flow is applied

Candidate Preferences Are Remembered for One Year

Every AI screening refusal is recorded, regardless of which refusal flow your organization uses.

If the same candidate returns within one year, the stored preference is recognized automatically. The candidate is not asked the same AI screening consent question again, and their previous choice is respected.

Two Refusal Flow Options

Your organization can choose what happens when a candidate declines AI screening.

The same refusal logic is used across the Candidate Engagement Platform (CEP), chatbot, and video interview experiences.

Downgrade Flow (Default)

When a candidate declines AI screening:

  • The candidate continues the interview and answers every question
  • Responses are recorded for recruiter review
  • No AI score is generated
  • The refusal is recorded

Blocked Flow

When a candidate declines AI screening:

  • The interview ends immediately
  • The candidate is not asked any screening questions
  • No score is generated
  • The refusal is recorded

Follow-Up Actions

Organizations can configure follow-up actions that occur when a candidate declines AI screening.

These actions help keep recruiting workflows and connected systems aligned with candidate preferences.

For example:

  • Send a message to your ATS indicating that the candidate chose not to continue with the AI-screened interview

Note:

If a candidate begins screening through a chatbot experience and chooses not to use AI, the candidate is redirected to the CEP experience, where even the interview questions are not written by AI.

Availability and Setup

New Customers:

Opt-Out Screening is enabled by default.

The Downgrade Flow is the default refusal behavior.

Existing Customers:

Existing AI consent behavior remains unchanged until Opt-Out Screening is enabled.

To enable Opt-Out Screening, change refusal behavior, or configure follow-up actions, contact your Radancy representative or account team.
